Ysanne Choksey

Ysanne started working at E3G initially in the Fossil Fuel transition team working on the transition of Germany’s electricity sector to a renewables-based carbon-neutral power system by 2035. She mainly focused her work on the transition away from coal in the power sector, which has historically made up a large segment of the power sector. She specialised in her first year on Germany’s response in the power sector to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. She also worked on developing G7 policy on restricting private finance of coal from financial institutions based in G7 countries. Previously she worked for an NGO, Urgewald, that developed fossil fuel divestment campaigns towards financial institutions. She contributed to writing E3G’s first G7 Power Sector Scorecard that compared G7 countries on how ready they were for a ‘predominantly’ decarbonised power sector by 2035. She has also done work on Germany’s role in the CEE region. In May 2024, a report on CEE decarbonisation in the power sector was coauthored by her, Pieter de Pous and CEE Bankwatch.

In February 2024, she moved over to work on European Steel Decarbonisation. In this role, she is working as the convenor for the European Fossil Free Steel Network. This role means she is a specialist in the Civil Society response in Europe to the decarbonisation of Steel. She also works with the North American network, the Indian Green Steel Network, and the Australia/S.Korea/Japan Network to ensure that European CSO responses are aligned with the international needs of other CSOs. In this role, she is also the E3G lead on European steel decarbonisation. Her focus areas are Just Transition and the role that Germany must play in the CEE region on industrial decarbonisation, specifically steel.
