Karla Hill
Associate Director - Political Economy & Governance
Karla is an Associate Director, leading E3G's Political Economy and Governance work.
As part of E3G’s Political Economy & Governance work, Karla focuses on identifying and enabling the institutions, actions, laws and alliances critical to driving effective, rapid and just global climate action. She works in collaboration across E3G’s programmes including fossil fuel transition, sustainable finance, and clean economy. Her work also includes building alliances with key partners and actors.
Previously, Karla was global programmes counsel and director of programmes at public interest environmental law group ClientEarth. She worked at ClientEarth for over 12 years from start-up to 160-strong international organisation. She was instrumental in the development of ClientEarth’s programmes, strategies, partnerships and funding. She particularly focused in the areas of climate change, energy, strategic litigation, climate finance as well as broad governance and rule of law themes.
Karla has 20 years’ professional experience on the environment, climate change, and energy law and policy. She has experience in the private, public and non-profit spheres.
Karla served on the board of Greener UK, a coalition of 13 major UK environmental organisations between 2016 and 2020.
She holds law (honours) and geography degrees from the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has practised as a qualified lawyer in New Zealand and England.
Originally from New Zealand, Karla lives in London with her partner and two children.
