E3G’s distinctive Co-CEO model reflected a unique set of circumstances and relationships between Nick Mabey and Shane Tomlinson, both long-time key figures at E3G, the international climate politics and diplomacy think tank.
With the news that Shane Tomlinson has decided to step down, the E3G Board has decided that a single CEO will offer the best leadership and clarity of strategic focus for the organisation going forward.
After 3 years leading E3G, first as interim-CEO and then as Co-CEO, Shane Tomlinson will be leaving E3G at the end of March later this year. Nick Mabey, E3G co-founder, will continue as the CEO of E3G as the organisation moves into its third decade of delivery.
Shane Tomlinson said:
“It’s been a tremendous privilege to lead E3G with Nick over the past three years. I’m fantastically proud of everything the organisation has achieved, and I want to thank everyone in E3G and the E3G Board for supporting me as co-CEO. However, for personal reasons I think now is the right time for me to step back, take some time off to recharge, and think about the next steps in my career. I have every confidence that the talent in E3G will enable the organisation to continue to flourish in the coming years.”
Nick Mabey, E3G CEO said:
“Shane Tomlinson has been at the heart of E3G’s success and growth since the very beginning. His rigorous thought leadership, compassion and hard work has been central to creating the unique culture of E3G. Shane was central to building E3G as a start-up and took on increasing responsibilities as we grew, finally acting as co-CEO in the past few years. I will personally miss Shane as a collaborator and my indispensable partner in navigating the good – and not so good – times in leading E3G. Though we are all sad to see Shane move on we are excited to see how he takes his skills and creativity to the next challenge and expect to enjoy working with him in his next role.”
Hedwige Nuyens, E3G Chair said:
“I want to express my sincere appreciation to Shane Tomlinson for his leadership and commitment during his time as co-CEO of E3G. His passion and dedication have strengthened our organization, enabling us to advance our mission to address climate change. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.”
